As the first Peace Corps Volunteers were sent to Ghana in 1961, President Kennedy said, "The logic of the Peace Corps is that someday we are going to bring it home to America." Peace Corps Fellows at Illinois State University (ISU) have been using the skills they learned overseas in the classroom and at placement sites since our program began in 1994.
ISU’s Peace Corps Fellows Program helps rural and urban communities across the United States with their vital community and economic development needs. It also enhances the skills of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who hope to be part of a new generation of development specialists. Peace Corps Fellows at ISU may pursue the following master’s degrees:
- Applied Economics, Applied Community and Economic Development Sequence Sample Applied Economics Plan of Study (PDF)
- Political Science, Applied Community Development Sequence Sample Political Science Plan of Study (PDF)
- Sociology, Applied Community and Economic Development Sequence Sample Sociology Plan of Study (PDF)
To graduate, Fellows must complete one year of full-time coursework and a second year of full-time, hands-on professional practice with communities or organizations needing their skills.
